The
Whitlam Government sets up Department of Aboriginal Affairs (DAA) and
introduced ‘self-determination’.
"Self-determination' means that the Aboriginals got to have more say in in
their affairs and more opinions into the laws and policies that affected
their community. They would also have more freedom to live their lives
how they wanted to. Self-determination was a
major step forward for Aboriginals to enjoy the same rights and freedom
as the white Australians. People thought the policy as to be ‘one of the most revolutionary policy changes ever enacted in Australian government policy’.
