The Fraser government allows aboriginals to claim and own land in the Northern Territory if they can prove that they have traditional occupation and connection to the land. This was the first of the land rights acts to the indigenous Australians. Over the past 3 decades, Aboriginals have managed to claim about 44% of the whole Northern Territory.
